Durban ironman 70.3

The Annual Ironman 70.3 is taking place in Durban this coming Sunday, 7^th June 2026. The good news is that there are over 20 Zimbabwean athletes flying down to South Africa to compete in this challenging event. The day will start with a 1.9km swim in the sea alongside uShaka Marineland. Competitors are allowed to wear wetsuits if the water is below a certain temperature, but the toughness of the swim is all dependent on the weather, and particularly the wind conditions on the day. This is followed by a flat, out, and back, 90km cycle north through Umhlanga and Umdloti. 

The final segment of this race is a very flat 21.1km run around a multi-lap, spectator-friendly route along the Durban beachfront promenade. Our leading athletes are hoping to come in under 5 hours – time limit 8 hours.

We, at Bambazonke Nhasi, would like to wish all our local competitors all the best as they challenge themselves against the elements that Durban will throw at them on Sunday.
